Three-time Grand Slam tournament winner Angelique Kerber has received a wildcard for the grass court classic in Wimbledon. The organizers announced this.
Kerber, who is currently ranked 224th in the tennis world rankings after her maternity leave, is automatically in the main draw at the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. The 36-year-old won the title at Wimbledon in 2018.
Wildcard also for Raducanu, Osaka and Wozniacki
In addition to Kerber, other prominent players, including Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka and Caroline Wozniacki, were awarded a wildcard. The tournament at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club begins on July 1. Kerber will prepare for Wimbledon next week at the tournament in Bad Homburg.
In Berlin, the former world number one was defeated by Czech Linda Noskova in the first round on Tuesday despite a good performance.
