(ANSA) – LOS ANGELES (USA), JUNE 25 – Former player turned consultant JJ Redick has been officially appointed coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, and will soon have to prove himself despite his total lack of experience on the bench. Redick inherited one of the most exposed positions in American sport on Monday on his 40th birthday, leading the prestigious basketball franchise with 17 NBA titles. “I take this responsibility very seriously. My main motivation is to put myself at the service” of the Lakers, he said during a press conference. “JJ has an understanding of the modern game that will energize the players,” said team general manager Rob Pelinka. “The goal is the title. It’s my job. Our job is to build a team that is a candidate for the title. That’s why I signed,” added the new coach. Redick replaces Darvin Ham, who was fired along with his entire staff in May after the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Denver. He will have the heavy task of relaunching the Californian franchise, which won the title for the last time in 2020. (ANSA).
