Boston Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis to undergo foot surgery and likely miss Olympics with Latvia

Even injured, Kristaps Porzingis participated in the parade organized for the Boston Celtics’ 18th NBA championship title last Friday. But the Latvian learned bad news this Tuesday. “Kristaps Porzingis suffered a torn retinaculum and dislocated tibialis posterior tendon in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Surgery will be performed in the coming days and further updates will be provided as they become available,” the Massachusetts franchise on X announced.

Repeated injuries

The 2.18 m interior has never been spared from injuries since the start of his career, especially during the 2024 play-offs. Hit in a calf during the first round against Miami on April 21, the Latvian was only able to return during the final against Dallas on June 7. But during match 3, again, this time to a shin.

In total, Porzingis played only seven matches during this playoff campaign, including three in the final. The accumulation of his injuries will force him to undergo surgery this summer. He will be absent at the beginning of July with Latvia for an Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Riga. Already absent during the last World Cup, the Latvian should certainly not play in the Olympic Games.
