Ibrahim Afellay is deeply impressed by Nico Williams, as he makes clear during the review of the European Championship match between Spain and Georgia (4-1). The Spanish winger was one of the stars and managed to put his name on the scoreboard with a devastating shot.
Spain reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship in a very convincing manner on Sunday evening. In Cologne, national coach Luis de la Fuente’s team was much too strong for Georgia. The Georgians surprisingly took the lead through an own goal by Robin Le Normand, but a defeat turned out to be inevitable due to Rodri, Fabián Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo. The Spaniards will meet Germany in the quarter-finals.
“If you shoot the ball in like that, you actually deserve a yellow card,” said Afellay at the NOS Studio Fussball table when watching the replay of Williams’ goal.

The winger took off from his own half and raced towards the opposition penalty area. Once inside the penalty area, Williams pulled the trigger mercilessly and hit the roof of the net: 3-1.
“That ball is so hard,” Afellay continues. “The goalkeeper only heard him. Williams also simply has a good appearance. He is a boy who is very versatile. The ball is really on a string with him.”
“He is difficult to defend. He is technically very skilled and can pass on both sides. He also has eyes for his fellow players. For me he is the best player of the tournament so far. I would be surprised if he still plays for Athletic Club after this tournament,” Afellay concludes.
Ismael Saibari, also present, joins his table companion. “He just dares to look for his man, he is not afraid. He can pass it both outside and inside. He is fast and unpredictable. Williams makes it all look simple, that’s what makes him so good,” said the PSV midfielder.
