During ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast from Camden Yards, Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles announced his participation in the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game MLB 2024. The young slugger, who turned 23 just the day before, revealed his plans while speaking into the microphone during the third inning of the final game of the series against the Rangers.

Henderson will be the first official participant in T-Mobile Home Run Derby, scheduled for July 15 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. “This will be my first time in the competition, so I’m just looking to be competitive. Obviously, I’m going to win,” Henderson enthusiastically declared during the live ESPN broadcast. “But yeah, as long as I can get some competitive rounds in, then I’ll be happy.”

Second place in home runs in MLB
The announcement comes at an opportune time for Henderson, who has had an outstanding first half of the season in his second year in the major leagues. His 26 home runs To date, he is tied for second in the majors along with Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers, only behind the leader, Aaron Judge of the Yankees, who has hit 31 home runs.
