US coach sacked

Two years before the 2026 World Cup, the United States coach has been fired after a premature elimination from the Copa America.

United States men’s soccer coach Gregg Berhalter has been fired after his failure at the Copa America, his federation announced Wednesday.

Berhalter, 50, who has been in office since June 2023, after a first stint from 2018 to the end of 2022, was ousted “with immediate effect”announced the American federation in a press release.

Host country of the Copa America, the United States suffered a pitiful elimination last week in the group stages of the competition played on home soil after two defeats (Uruguay, Panama) and one victory (Bolivia). The team hopes to show a better face at the 2026 World Cup that it will co-host with Mexico and Canada.

The federation has started looking for a coach who can “maximizing our potential during our preparation for the 2026 World Cup”said sporting director Matt Crocker, quoted in the press release.
