Sport Vlaanderen Grants 999,000 Euro Subsidy for New Sports Hall in Halle: What to Expect

Sport Vlaanderen is giving a subsidy of 999,000 euros to the city of Halle for the construction of the new sports hall. With this financial support, Halle is building a brand new sports hall that offers more space to schools and clubs.

The new sports hall is being built next to the old sports complex on the De Bres site. Everyone will be able to play sports and support at this location. This is what you can expect in the new sports infrastructure:

The hall can be divided into 3 parts. This is ideal for sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor football.

Judo, karate, taekwondo and other martial arts can be practiced in this hall.

For gymnastics enthusiasts, there will be a new hall where both beginners and advanced gymnasts can train. The demand for good gymnastics facilities in Halle is high. That is why Halle consciously chooses this addition.

An extra space that can be used for dance, yoga, table tennis and other activities. This room will also serve as an extra training space for schools and sports clubs.

In addition to the sports hall, there will also be new outdoor sports fields, including an artificial grass field, a basketball court and beach volleyball courts. For joggers and walkers, there will also be a Finnish track along the Zenne later.

More opportunities for schools and clubs

The current sports hall in Halle is outdated and no longer meets modern requirements. In addition, the current sports hall is often fully booked, especially during school hours. A new hall provides more space and opportunities for both schools and sports clubs.

Accessible and sustainable

“The old sports hall is limitedly accessible for wheelchair users. The new sports hall will be fully accessible for everyone, regardless of age or physical disability. Furthermore, the new sports hall will be very sustainable. With an energy-efficient infrastructure, Halle contributes to a better environment,” says alderman Pieter Busselot. In the development of the new sports hall, Halle also worked together with local sports clubs, schools and residents. Through surveys and participation moments, the city asked everyone what they wanted for the new sports infrastructure.

New sports hall in green oasis

The Flemish Environment Agency (VMM) and other organisations are also involved because the new sports hall is part of a complete renovation of the De Bres site, which will include the creation of a beautiful landscape park along the Zenne. “Once the new sports hall is finished, the current sports complex will be converted into a parking garage, where other activities can also take place. The area around the sports hall will then become a green oasis on the edge of the centre,” says mayor Marc Snoeck. The plans will be further developed in the coming months. The new sports hall will cost approximately 18.5 million euros and will be ready in 2027.
