With the end of the continental tournaments EURO and Copa América, the 2023/24 season officially came to an end last weekend. While numerous professionals are already preparing for the new season with their clubs, some national players in particular are now on vacation – and this is well-deserved, as a look at the TM database shows. From Rodri to Barış Alper Yılmaz, Transfermarkt has taken a look at the absolute long-runners for 2023/24.

This shows that of the ten players with the most appearances in the past season, eight earn their money in England or Turkey. The leader of the ranking is right winger Yılmaz from Galatasaray. The 24-year-old made a total of 70 appearances in the 23/24 season – 55 of them for his club, a further 15 for the Turkish national team. With the latter, Yılmaz failed in the European Championship quarter-finals against the Netherlands, but was able to impress and played his way into the focus of several international clubs during the tournament in Germany, including Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. Yılmaz had increased his market value from 4 to 17 million euros over the course of the season, and his contract on the Bosporus runs until 2027. In the market value update following the European Championship on Thursday, the attacker could go even higher.

In the long-running ranking, Serbian international Dusan Tadic from Fenerbahce and European runner-up Phil Foden from Manchester City follow with 69 appearances in 2023/24. His teammate and Copa winner Julián Álvarez is in fourth place with 68 games played and is the only South American in the top five. Federico Valverde (Real Madrid/Uruguay), Luis Díaz (Liverpool/Colombia) and Darwin Núñez (Liverpool, Uruguay) are behind him with 67 games, as are Kerem Aktürkoğlu (Galatasaray/Turkey), Sebastian Szymanski (Fenerbahce/Poland) and Jan Oblak (Atlético/Slovenia). The first German player in the ranking is İlkay Gündoğan from FC Barcelona, who has played 51 games for the Catalans and 15 for the DFB selection. Arsenal’s Kai Havertz (66) and Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz (65) are also among the top 30 in the ranking.
