Anticipation is growing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, on July 25 the first arrows on French soil and Italy hopes to climb onto the podium once again.

Mauro Nespoli, Federico Musolesi, Alessandro Paoli and Chiara Rebagliati are the four Italian archers who will try to climb onto the Olympic podium in France. The Italian tradition of archery at the Olympics is excellent and dates back a long time, the first medal ever was the bronze in Montreal 1976 by Giancarlo Ferrari with the Italian archer who repeated himself four times later in Moscow, winning another brilliant bronze.

To find the Italian archery on the Olympic podium again, we have to wait until 1996 when in Atlanta the trio Matteo Bisiani, Andrea Parenti and Michele Frangilli won the bronze behind the United States of America and South Korea. From that day on, the Italian archers never made any more mistakes and for five consecutive editions they would arrive at a medal. In Sydney 2000, the men’s team of Ilario Di Buò, Matteo Bisiani and Michele Frangilli took the silver behind only South Korea, while in Athens 2004 the dream of bringing a gold medal to Italy came true thanks to Marco Galiazzo who won the men’s individual competition.

In 2008, South Korea once again stopped the Italian men’s race with Ilario Di Buò, Marco Galiazzo and Mauro Nespoli winning another brilliant silver. To regain the gold they had to wait only four years, at London 2012, no one was able to stop the race of Marco Galiazzo, Mauro Nespoli and Michele Frangilli who in the final got the better of the United States of America thanks to the last arrow on Frangilli’s “10” which remains one of the most emotional gestures in the history of the London Olympics.

After the stop in Rio 2016, Italy returns to greatness in Tokyo where Mauro Nespoli wins the men’s silver while writing a completely new page of history is Lucilla Boari who wins the first Italian women’s medal in archery with a splendid bronze. Now it’s Paris 2024’s turn with the Italians who will try to take home more medals going to implement a loot that to date says 2 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronzes in total at the Olympic Games.
