Summer Courses at Sinaloa Institute: A Path to Athletic Success

CULIACÁN._ The Summer Courses of the Sinaloa Institute of Physical Culture and Sports have become a turning point for many athletes.

Some come to do some sporting activity, where they learn and never return, but others arrive and the chemistry is at first sight.

Such is the case of weightlifter Melany Montes Mokay and judoka Ana Lucía Álvarez López, who a few years ago came to the Isde Summer Courses with their mothers, and fell in love with their disciplines and are now the figures of Sinaloa and Mexico.

National weightlifting runner-up and national selection winner, Melany Montes, recalled when she first came to the Summer Courses organized by the Institute and was impressed by that discipline.

“I get goosebumps. I am standing here today thanks to my mother’s decision to bring me to the Isde Summer Courses,” said Montes Mokay, who won three silver medals at the last Conade 2024 Nationals in Campeche.

“I was a little girl who had nothing to do at home (on vacation), and here I am, a high-performance athlete, medalist at the 2023 and 2024 Conade Nationals and a member of the national team.”

The weightlifting specialist recommended that those who were unable to attend this edition should keep an eye out for the 2025 edition of the Isde Summer Courses.

“I recommend it because this decision will be important in their lives. In addition to having fun and making friends, they also come to practice sports they don’t know, as happened to me and now I’m lifting weights,” added Melany Montes.

The two-time national judo champion and also a national team member, Ana Lucía Álvarez López, came to the Summer Courses as a hobby, but as the days went by, she ‘fell in love’ with judo, a discipline that has made her known nationally.

“At first I took it up as a game, as a hobby, I went one day yes, one day no, but then I took it up as high performance, I went every day, to training, to competitions,” the athlete recalled.

“I never imagined it (being selected as a national team player and two-time national champion), but things happen. If you like what you do, it will always happen.”

JCCR LIVES WITH CHILDREN DURING SUMMER COURSES

The general director of the Sinaloa Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, Julio César Cascajares Ramírez, spent time with the children during the Isde Summer Courses.

During his tour of the different work areas in the different disciplines, Cascajares Ramírez indicated that, in addition to teaching them techniques, the values of sport are also taught.

“Now that they are on vacation, it is a good time for children to be able to do physical activity and develop what we all deserve, the right to sport,” said the head of state sports.

“This is where initiation takes place. We see how younger children begin to develop. Here we try to teach them other things, physical and technical, which are the basis for the beginning of every athlete.”
