The series of summer test matches did not start well for the Azzurri with a bad defeat against Samoa (25-32), fortunately in the second appointment an encouraging victory came against Tonga (36-14). Not a particularly positive moment for Japan, who in the last friendly match had to surrender to Georgia in a very particular match. Italy has won the last two direct clashes against the Japanese, the most recent challenge dates back to a test match in 2023, shortly before the start of the World Cup, on that occasion the Azzurri easily won (42-21).
