Coach Nuri Sahin has underlined the great ambitions of Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund. “Our expectations are sky-high,” said the 35-year-old successor to Edin Terzic in Bangkok, Thailand, on the sidelines of the Asia marketing trip, for which SPORT1 is present. He is “very ambitious. Borussia Dortmund has to fight for titles and that is what we want and will do.”

On Sunday (from 3 p.m. in the live ticker) the Champions League finalist will play a test match against BG Pathum United. Players such as Niclas Füllkrug and Donyell Malen are still missing from the squad because of their participation in the European Championship. According to Sahin, all of the players who have travelled with the team will get minutes in the test. The aim is to take a step forward “physically and in terms of football”.
Ryerson on new BVB coach: Brings in “ideas”
For full-back Julian Ryerson, Sahin brings “ideas into the preparation. But in terms of effort” it is comparable to other coaches, said the 26-year-old on Sky. But the trip to Asia, which started on Thursday, is also putting a strain on the Dortmund players beyond the sporting aspects. It is “not easy with the jet lag and the travelling,” emphasised Sahin. Ryerson said of the trip: “It’s really just about training, flying and sleeping.”
The second stop on the Asia tour is Osaka/Japan, where BVB will play another friendly match against Cerezo Osaka on Wednesday (12.15 CEST). On Thursday, they will return to Germany.
