Paris 2024 Olympics: The French are gradually arriving at the Olympic village

They were the first French team to reach the Olympic village on Friday, July 19. The water polo players set down their suitcases in Seine-Saint-Denis in the complex that covers 52 hectares, between Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen and Ile-Saint-Denis.

“It’s cool! Our rooms are magnificent. We have the famous cardboard bed. Each player has his little sign on the bed with his photo and his sport. We easily make the place our own. We feel like it belongs to us. It was the coach’s wish that we arrive early in the village in order to get our bearings quickly and then focus on performance,” summarized the Bleus defender Rémi Saudadier.

The following day, July 20, the field hockey players also took up residence in the Olympic Village, located 9 km from the Yves-du-Manoir departmental stadium in Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine), the venue for the hockey events. This Sunday, July 21, it was their female counterparts who set up camp in the 93, like the men’s rugby 7s delegation, led in particular by Antoine Dupont. The rugby players, who stopped off in Marcoussis during the day, were due to arrive in the village on Sunday evening.

Several athletes will not be staying in the village

Many tenants will flock in the coming days, including the French handball and 3×3 basketball teams, this Monday, July 22. This will also be the case for the gymnasts – both men and women – who will arrive at the Olympic village during the day. On Tuesday, July 23, the basketball players – in five against five – will come to settle in.

On Wednesday, July 24, it will be the turn of the French fencing team and the rugby 7 players to follow suit. The next day, the boxing delegation will get its bearings. Finally, the combined team, in climbing, will wait until Friday, August 2 to enter the Olympic village.

Other delegations have chosen not to settle in the Olympic Village, for logistical reasons or to concentrate. This is obviously the case for the French shooting team, which has been staying since July 19 near Châteauroux, where the events will take place. The rowing team will arrive this Monday, July 22 near the Vaires-sur-Marne aquatic stadium (Seine-et-Marne). The same goes for the French canoe team, which has been staying since Saturday in a hotel near the site. In tennis, the accommodation, occupied from July 22, is the National Training Center, near Roland-Garros.

The men’s basketball players, who will play their first round in Lille, have chosen to stay at the Creps (Centre for resources, expertise and sports performance) in Wattignies.
