USA Baseball has announced its final roster for the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2024 presented by CARNEXT, taking place in Thunder Bay, Canada, from July 28-August 3, following the conclusion of a U.S. Women’s National Team Training Camp.
“After a great week of training, we are thrilled to name the 20 players who will join us in our quest for a world title,” said Women’s National Team Program Director Ann Claire Roberson. “This was one of the most competitive camps we’ve ever had and I have no doubt these players will rise to the challenge of playing away from home and on a big stage. We’re excited to see what this team brings to the table as we shift our focus to the next steps needed to ensure a gold medal comes home to us from Canada.”
Following a series of intensive training sessions, practices and intra-squad scrimmages, the final squad of 20 players was selected, featuring a mix of familiar faces and one new addition. Of the 20 players named, 17 were part of last year’s WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Pool A tournament in Thunder Bay, where the world No. 4 finished atop the standings with five wins from five.
The U.S. bid for gold will be led by seasoned veterans Anna Kimbrell, Maggie Meidlinger and Kelsie Whitmore, who together bring 29 years of experience to the Women’s National Team.
The roster also includes stars Alex Hugo, Kylee Lahners and Ashton Lansdell, each making their fifth appearance with Team USA. Denae Benites will make her fourth appearance, while emerging talents Olivia Pichardo and Naomi Ryan secured spots for the third and second time, respectively.
Jillian Albayati, Jamie Baum, Elise Berger, Niki Eckert, Alana Martinez and Remi Schaber have each earned a spot on the list for a third time.
Rounding out the roster are Beth Greenwood and Valerie Perez, returning for a second consecutive year, while Sophia Broderick will make her National Team debut.
The team will be led by five-time Team USA player and three-time coach Veronica Alvarez. She will be supported by pitching coach Rey Mendoza and assistant coaches Alex Oglesby and Malaika Underwood.
The team will remain in Minneapolis to continue training at Siebert Field from July 22-24, before heading to Thunder Bay to compete in their first match against Venezuela on July 28.
