The ITF has announced that Iga Swiatek will have the honor of opening the Paris 2024 tennis tournament on Court Philippe Chatrier. In the evening, the attraction will be the first of the doubles pair of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.

The Stade Roland-Garros will once again vibrate. Almost two months after Carlos Alcaraz’s victory against Alexander Zverev in the final of the French Open, the Parisian clay courts will host the Olympic tennis tournament. While the draw for the five draws was made this Thursday, with the women’s singles even undergoing a change a few hours later after Elena Rybakina withdrew, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has unveiled the program for the first day of competition, scheduled for this Saturday on twelve different courts, all redecorated in the colors of Paris 2024. Winner of the last three editions of Roland-Garros and number 1 seed in the women’s singles, Iga Swiatek will have the honor of opening the Olympic tournament on Court Philippe-Chatrier against Irina Camelia Begu with the first exchanges scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Following that, it is Novak Djokovic who will tread the clay of the Roland-Garros center court to challenge Matthew Ebden. As with the French Open, an evening session will be organized from 7:00 p.m. Taking advantage of the fact that the matches are played in the best of three sets, with a super-tiebreak instead of the third in doubles, these are two matches that will be played at night.

The Alcaraz/Nadal pairing will open the evening session

For this first, the ITF did not hesitate to bet on the highly anticipated Spanish pair composed of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal. They will open the show against the Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni, who are seeded number 6. A match that will be followed by the duel between Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber. Unlucky finalist last June, Jasmine Paolini will begin her Olympic tournament against Ana Bogdan in the first rotation on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. A match that will be followed by that of Carlos Alcaraz against Hady Habib. Caroline Garcia will then make her entrance against Jaqueline Cristian before Daniil Medvedev faces Rinky Hijikata. Diane Parry will be the first Frenchwoman in the running since she will open the program on Court No. 14. Varvara Gracheva, for her part, will face Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second rotation on Court Simonne-Mathieu. Her day will continue with her entry into the women’s doubles with Clara Burel against the Canadians Gabriela Dabrowski and Leylah Fernandez, seeded number 5. Finally, the two men’s doubles pairs will be in the running from this first day. While Arthur Fils and Ugo Humbert will conclude the program on Court No. 6 against the Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, Fabien Reboul and Edouard Roger-Vasselin are expected in the second rotation on Court No. 12 against the Indians Sriram Balaji and Rohan Bopanna.
