Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi apparently lost his wedding ring while waving the flag on the Seine during the opening ceremony.
As Il Messaggero reports, the 32-year-old’s ring slipped from his wet hand and fell into the river. The Tokyo Olympic champion led the Italian delegation together with fencer Arianna Errigo.
After the serious loss, a water polo player is said to have made a video evidence for Tamberi’s wife to prove that the mishap was involuntary.
In Paris, Tamberi will not compete again until August 7th in the qualification. The medals will be awarded on August 10th.
