Paris 2024 Olympics, skateboarding: events postponed until Monday due to rain, “the guys are frustrated”

The rain is somewhat disrupting the start of these Olympic Games. After being present almost all evening on the occasion of the opening ceremony of these Olympic Games, the rain continued to fall all night and also in this early morning on the capital.

Bad weather which, according to our information, forced the organizers to postpone the skateboarding events in the street category until Monday, July 29. They were supposed to be a highlight of this Saturday, July 27, the first official day of the Olympic events. A first preliminary event was supposed to take place at noon in the exceptional setting of the Concorde, before the final starting at 5 p.m. The hard work of dozens of volunteers on Saturday morning, busy evacuating large puddles of water from the urban park of the Concorde using squeegees, was not enough.

Due to this capricious weather that has been hitting Paris for many hours now, Aurélien Giraud and Vincent Milou will have to wait two more days before, we hope, shining on the Place de la Concorde. “The guys are frustrated because they are impatient to skate on the Olympic Park and they feel good. But at least they will have the sun on Monday,” a member of the French skating staff told us. “It’s not a drama,” notes the French team, whose chances of a medal “remain mobilized.”

Training under cover in Seine-et-Marne

“We’re going to continue the physical preparation and keep them in the best conditions until Monday,” adds Alexis Jauzion, team leader of the men’s street team. “They’re going to train in an indoor skatepark today in Chelles (at Cosanostra, in Seine-et-Marne). We’ve been used to this type of unforeseen weather for years because there are very few indoor facilities, unfortunately, so we’re often subject to postponements in case of rain.”

Aurélien Giraud, 2023 world champion, is a real chance for a gold medal for France. As for Vincent Milou, 4th in Tokyo, he also has every chance. We tell you HERE how the native of Landes, a surf fan, bought his own skatepark, thanks to the talents of his carpenter brother.

The places for the cancelled session will be reusable for the one on Monday, the date of the postponement.
