Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong Secure First Win for Korea in Mixed Doubles Badminton at 2024 Paris Olympics

The pair of Seo Seung-jae (27, Samsung Life Insurance) and Chae Yu-jeong (29, Incheon International Airport) gave the badminton team its first win.

Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong easily defeated Koceila Mammery and Tanina Violet Mammery (Algeria) 2-0 (21-10, 21-7) in the first match of the group stage of the mixed doubles badminton at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Porte de la Chapelle in Paris, France on the 27th (Korean time).

World No. 3 Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong have made a positive start toward advancing to the quarterfinals by winning their first group match. Their second group match against Robin Tabling and Selina Payk (Netherlands) will be held at 4:10 a.m. on the 29th.

The match on this day was the first match for Korean badminton in this competition. The national badminton team is determined to recapture its glory in this competition after a ‘no gold’ streak that began in the 2012 London Games. Expectations are especially high for Seo Seung-jae, who is considered a medal candidate in both the mixed doubles and men’s doubles.

The preliminary matches for women’s singles Kim Ga-eun, mixed doubles Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun, women’s doubles Kim So-young and Kong Hee-yong and Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee, and men’s doubles Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok will be held in that order. World No. 1 women’s singles player An Se-young will play her first match against Kalojana Nalvantova (Bulgaria).
