2024 Paris Olympics: A Historic Outdoor Opening Ceremony Celebrating Love and Diversity

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics officially opened at 1:30 am on the 27th, Hong Kong time. Different from the tradition of being held in a stadium in the past, this year’s opening ceremony was held outdoors, along the banks of the Seine, with more than 300,000 spectators watching the ceremony on the banks of the Seine. Olympic teams from 206 countries and regions boarded more than 100 cruise ships and entered the venue along the Seine. During the entry of the teams, there were rich and diverse performances. Whether in terms of venue size or audience number, it is the largest Olympic opening ceremony in history.

The opening ceremony began with the American pop diva Lady Gaga singing the French song Mon Truc en Plumes, followed by several performances paying tribute to construction workers, craftsmen, etc. In addition, the French heavy metal band Gojira performed Ah! Ca Ira, a famous song from the French Revolution, making history as the first heavy rock performance at the Olympic opening ceremony. Celine Dion, a pop diva who suffers from stiff person syndrome, also performed the closing show in Paris at night, singing Hymne A L’Amour.

The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics was directed by theater artist Thomas Jolly. He said in a report by AFP that the theme of the opening ceremony was love. He said that the four-hour celebration was to celebrate the diversity of culture, language, religion and sexual orientation in France and around the world.
