According to Helmut Mark, Pérez’s result was not what the team expected.
Pérez started the race from the front row. At the finish of the race, however, he was only in eighth place. After Russell’s disqualification, he improved to seventh position.
“Sergio had the opportunity to get a good result from second place,” Helmut Marko told Sky Germany. “Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Especially in the last stint, where he clocked 1:48, he completely collapsed.”
“What looked so positive in qualifying unfortunately did not materialize in the race.”
Asked about Monday’s meeting to discuss their driver line-up across Red Bull and sister team RB, Marko added: “The situation with us is that we will also discuss the overall situation for 2025. We have a number of drivers and we have a concept.”
“But of course every result is important for Sergio, and eighth place after starting from second place on the grid is definitely not what we expected.”
He no longer wants to talk about the future
Of course, the Mexican was asked about his future after the race, but he will not talk about this topic anymore.
“Yesterday I had a good day, nothing has changed, I think we have a lot of work in the team, a lot of things to focus on and we can’t waste energy on all these rumours. This is the last time I’ll talk about the future, just so everyone’s clear. I won’t talk anymore, I won’t answer any more questions about the future.’
Verstappen put on the medium compound for the final stint, Pérez on the hard (disregarding the third stop where he put on the soft tires to set the fastest lap of the race).
Perhaps the best is the comparison between Pérez and Leclerc, who built 4 laps later. Leclerc was an average of 6 tenths faster per lap.
