Blue Jays Youth Shines Despite Series Loss to Orioles

With the Toronto Blue Jays making multiple trades in recent days, there is now plenty of playing time available for youngsters. They showed up Wednesday in a losing cause.

It was hard to believe the Queen City representatives would do well in this series against the powerful Baltimore Orioles, who won the series 3-1, adding a 10-4 victory on Wednesday.

Outfielder Addison Barger has been one of the team’s best players since being recalled from Triple-A on July 20. He scored the Jays’ first two runs with his second home run of the season and a double that set up Ernie Clement.

The 24-year-old has produced seven runs in his last three outings.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also drove in a run with a weak grounder in the fifth inning.

In his first game with the Jays, Joey Loperfido had a hit, while Luis De Los Santos was shut out in one at-bat for his major league debut.

However, it was impossible to slow down the Orioles and Jackson Holliday, who hit a grand slam in the fifth inning.

The Blue Jays (50-59) will have a day off before starting a three-game series against the New York Yankees (65-45) at Yankee Stadium on Friday.
