Zaldívar expects that the judicial reform ruling will begin in two weeks – El Sol de México

Retired minister Arturo Zaldívar predicted that the first opinion of the judicial reform initiative will be ready in a couple of weeks, with the modifications that arise from the consultation forums.

Zaldívar Lelo de Larrea, who will be the coordinator of Politics and Government in Claudia Sheinbaum’s presidency, avoided commenting on what changes could be admitted in the reform proposed by López Obrador in February; he said that this issue will be the work of the deputies.

“All of this is being discussed in a few days, perhaps one or two weeks, and perhaps the final version of the ruling will begin to be presented. The final decision, as the president-elect said, is up to the legislators,” he responded when asked if the staggered election of judges, magistrates and ministers will be accepted.

“We are obviously trying to contribute, we are in working groups, but the final decision will be up to the legislators,” he added.

Arturo Zaldívar considered that the opinion on judicial reform will also include contributions from the opposition; “I believe that opposition legislators have been present in the forums, but that work is now up to the legislators,” he said.

He pointed out that other opinions, such as those raised by the UNAM Institute for Legal Research, could also be taken into account by the Legislative Branch when issuing a ruling on judicial reform.

Arturo Zaldívar was appointed by Claudia Sheinbaum as the next coordinator of Politics and Government in her Presidency. The former head of the capital’s government announced that the minister will be the one to follow up on the reforms approved in Congress.
