2024 Olympic Games: Group Stage Concludes with Thrilling Matchups Ahead of Quarter-Finals

The group stage of the 2024 Olympic Games ended on Saturday evening, with the two matches of the day in Group C. We were waiting to know who the two best third-placed teams would be and for that a victory for Serbia against South Sudan was expected. This is what happened, with a success (96-85) built by a gala Bogdan Bogdanovic (30 pts, 8 asts). The South Sudanese have nothing to be ashamed of in their tournament, quite the contrary, and leave the stage with dignity. Indeed, Greece, in Group A, and Brazil, in Group B, have a better point average and therefore reach the quarter-finals.

A little earlier, Team USA had continued its flawless performance by dominating Puerto Rico (104-83). After a failed quarter (29-25), Steve Kerr’s players got back on track under the leadership of Anthony Edwards (26 pts at 11/15), with a playmaker LeBron James (10 pts, 8 asts).

The posters for the quarter-finals are therefore known, with a fiery France-Canada, two theoretically affordable opponents for Team USA (which will face Brazil) and Germany, opposed to Greece, threatening but clearly less than the Mannschaft. The times of the matches have not yet been announced, but the Blues were to play on August 6, Tuesday therefore, against Canada.

If the Blues pass the Canadian obstacle, they will be in the same part of the table as Germany and Greece, as determined by the draw made on Saturday evening.

  • Canada – France
  • Germany – Greece
  • Team USA – Brazil
  • Serbia – Australia
