Historic Achievement: Italy Sends Record 140 Athletes, Including Taekwondo Competitors, to Paris 2024 Paralympics

It’s a record-breaking Italy that of Paris Paralympics 2024 (here is the complete program), which in this edition has managed to summon 140 athletes, of which 69 women and 71 men. It is the first time in the history of the Italian Paralympic movement that this number of athletes has been reached, who will compete for medals in 17 out of 22 sports disciplines.

Among these we find the Paralympic Taekwondothe second martial art adapted for people with disabilities in history to be entered into the curriculum of Paralympic Gamesafter Paralympic Judo. In this guide we discover who are the players called up by Italy for the competitions of this sport.

History of Paralympic Taekwondo at the Paralympics

The history of Taekwondo at the Paralympic Games is very recent, as this discipline was introduced for the first time into the sports programme at the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020.

So in Paris 2024 there will be its second official appearance, but it has already been included in the sports review of Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics. Until the Japanese Games the only sport dedicated to martial arts was Paralympic Judointroduced to the 1988 Seoul Paralympics.

Although there are various sporting categories in Taekwondo, at the moment the international event has opened its doors only to Kyorugiin which athletes with arm amputations/malformations compete.

Italian Paralympic Judo Athletes at the 2024 Paris Paralympics

The only athlete called up by Italy for the Paralympic Taekwondo at the 2024 Paris Paralympics is Anthony BossoloSicilian athlete born on January 27, 1995 who will compete in the Kyorugi -61kg, for the functional classification K44 given his malformation in his left arm.

Bossolo already has a list of achievements in his palmares 5th place at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. The one in Paris will officially be his second participation in the Paralympic Games. In addition to the Games, he has already taken part in the Judo World and European Championships: in 2023 he graduated World Champion in the Veracruz (Mexico) edition, while it was European Champion in 2018 in Kazan (Russia).
