The new NFL season is looming and RTL is right in the middle of it all with a top-class on-air team on free TV and on RTL+, and even closer than ever before.
As the Cologne-based broadcaster announced on Wednesday, it will go on the offensive as the NFL’s free TV partner in the 2024 season and, in addition to the cross-media content offering on all platforms, will continue to invest in the expansion of its live broadcasts. The focus is on an even greater US feel.
In addition to the TV production from the broadcasting center in Cologne-Deutz, the station is increasing its presence in the USA and is increasingly reporting live from US stadiums. For the first time, a German on-air team will be regularly seen on the sidelines in the USA, capturing the unique backdrop and atmosphere. For week 1, this means that presenter Jana Wosnitza will be reporting from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, together with NFL expert Markus Kuhn, on the game between the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings.
It starts on September 8th at 7pm on RTL. At the same time, fans can watch the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Pittsburgh Steelers on the All Inclusive Entertainment App RTL+Here the broadcast starts at 18:40.
At the end of the first week, RTL will show the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Commanders from 10:25 p.m., in which the second pick in the 2024 draft, quarterback Jayden Daniels, will make his NFL debut.
RTL relies on a top-class on-air team
On free TV, NFL expert Patrick Esume and commentator Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld will greet fans early on Sunday evening, and NFL expert Björn Werner and commentator Jan Stecker will greet them later in the evening. Alongside presenter Jana Wosnitza, community host Mitja Lafere will keep an eye on all the voices of the online community.
On RTL+, NFL expert Adrian Franke, commentator Frederick Schulz and community host Alex von Kuczkowski complete the high-class RTL NFL crew. Former NFL professionals and experts Markus Kuhn and Sebastian Vollmer, who live in the USA, are also part of the prominent on-air team and will increasingly be working from the States.
The first broadcast of the new season will of course be on September 6th, when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens for the season opener. The Super Bowl champions, led by Patrick Mahomes, will face last year’s MVP Lamar Jackson in a rematch of the AFC Championship Game from January. The broadcast on RTL starts at 1:50 a.m., kickoff is at 2:20 a.m.
As always, Jana Wosnitza will be the moderator, Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld and Patrick Esume will provide commentary, Mitja Lafere will be the community host and Markus Kuhn will report live from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Hard knocks shortly after US launch
But that’s not all, because the NFL season on RTL begins on September 6th at 0:25 a.m. with a night journal special “Season start in the NFL” with presenter Jan Stecker and expert Sebastian Vollmer. This will be followed at 0:45 a.m. by the free TV premiere of the documentary “Jakob Johnson – Never Give Up”, which will be available on demand on RTL+ from September 5th.
In addition, fans will be able to shorten the wait for the new season with the popular NFL documentary series “Hard Knocks”. Starting on September 8th, shortly after the US launch, a new episode of this year’s edition “Hard Knocks – Training Camp with the Chicago Bears” will be available to watch on RTL+ every week.
