Draymond Green: Team USA Basketball Strengthens as Global Threats Fade

Team USA’s loss at the World Championships a year ago, their second consecutive loss in the competition, seemed to have set off alarm bells in the American basketball world. The feeling was then confirmed in some way by the call-ups for the Olympic Games that are taking place these days, with the presence of all the biggest stars and stripes superstars.

After the last simple victories achieved by LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and companions, however, the alarm seems to have subsided, at least in someone’s mind. One of these is Draymond Greenwho spoke about the Olympics and the distance between the United States and the rest of the world in his podcast:

When Usain Bolt was running, everyone else was fighting for silver and bronze, and it was incredible. We all knew it, and the most interesting part of the races was to find out if he was going to break the record or not, and who was going to finish behind him. And the same thing is happening with Team USA in basketball right now.

There’s all this talk about the rest of the world catching up to the United States, but it doesn’t seem like that to me at all. In fact, it seems like the exact opposite is happening. It seems like the gap is getting wider and wider. Team USA is getting stronger and stronger.
