French Underdogs Set for Historic Showdown Against China’s Table Tennis Titans

French “outsiders” against the People’s Republic of China in the semi-final

Faced with the “Everest” of table tennis, the French will obviously start with the status of outsider. But it is the dream duel for a historic feat.

“We’re going to be outsiders for the first time, we’re going to give the best of ourselves,” promises Alexis Lebrun to our microphone. “I think we might have some opportunities. If we have some, we shouldn’t miss them. And then you never know with the crowd and everything that can happen. We don’t want to leave defeated and we want to go for the victory,” he adds.

And the public, the three men intend to use it again on Thursday, as they have done since the start of the tournament.

“The atmosphere has been incredible since the start of the Olympic Games, it’s crazy to be able to play here every time,” describes Félix Lebrun. “It’s really cool that there is an atmosphere like that in ping. We are used to playing in Asia, it’s a different atmosphere here, there is singing all the time even during the points, it’s something we love.”

Pour Simon Gauzythe main objective remains to win a medal. “We will have two opportunities to bring home a medal, no matter what,” he temporizes. “But we know that we are tackling a mountain tomorrow, with the three best players in the world in their team. We will try to concentrate on getting opportunities, if we have any we will take them. And no matter what happens, we will try to go for a medal all four of us with Jules (Rolland) the replacement.

Join us tomorrow, Thursday, August 8 at 10:00 a.m. to witness this explosive clash.
