Parma Clima Clinches Semifinal Victory Over Macerata with Strong Performance and Key Home Run

The first match of the semifinal series is Parma Clima. This evening Saccardi’s boys defeated Macerata with a score of 4 to 2 thanks to a three-run home run by Luis Gonzalez, the ten strikeouts scored by Casanova and a sensational defense that was exalted in the last inning with the decisive fly catches by Desimoni and Encarnacion.

For Macerata, hitting more hits (9 against 4 with Carrera at 3 for 4) was not enough: the initial lead was erased by Luis Gonzalez’s winning home run.

The Chronicle

The game was preceded by the award ceremony of the “Ilaria Molossi” trophy for the best Parma Clima player. The choice of the fans at the Cavalli stadium fell on Tommaso Battioni, voted by the public present at the third game against Nettuno and protagonist of a splendid championship after the injury at the beginning of the season. The home team overcame Angioi’s suspension by inserting Encarnacion in defense of second base with Ascanio at first. In the batting order all the players moved up one position with Battioni lead-off and Desimoni at the sixth spot. Monello played as designated with Mineo to receive Erly Casanova’s pitches.

Macerata responded with Carrera at first base, Robel Garcia at second, Leonora at third and Morresi at shortstop. The outfield was manned by Servidei, Sebastian Garcia and Albert while Di Turi received Moreno’s pitches with Splendiani designated. The first three Macerata batters – all left-handed – touched Casanova’s pitches. Morresi hit a single to left while Sebastian and Robel Garcia were thrown out on the fly by the home fielders. The visitors’ attack ended with Leonora’s strikeout.

The second inning of the visitors began with a lucky single to right by Carrera, continued with a long fly ball by Albert neutralized by Noel Gonzalez on the warning track and ended with the eliminations at the plate of Servidei and Splendiani interspersed with an infield single by Di Turi. The Marche team took the lead on the third try starting from an empty bases and two out situation. Robel Garcia hit a double to right and completed the round of bases thanks to a single by Leonora. Shortly after, Carrera performed a double to left that allowed Macerata to take a 2-0 lead.

Parma Clima struggled in the first two innings but found the points to immediately overtake in the third inning. Mineo and Ascanio opened the attack with a single and a double, Noel Gonzalez halved the deficit with a sacrifice fly and, after a base walk to Liddi, Luis Gonzalez hit his second personal home run of the season, a violent line to the center with which he created the points for 4 to 2. After the pyrotechnic third inning the game returned under the control of the pitchers who closed the fourth quarter without problems. Casanova also performed well in the first part of the fifth inning while Moreno got into trouble by hitting Ascanio. Battioni brought his teammate to second with a sacrifice but Noel Gonzalez and Liddi were unable to increase the advantage.

The sixth inning opened with two infield singles by Carrera and Albert. Liddi masterfully defended a bunt by Servidei, eliminating Albert at second, and then Casanova took over, repelling the visitors’ attack with two strikeouts against Di Turi and Sebastian Garcia. At the change of sides, Moreno (5rl. 4Pgl, 4bvc, 1bb, 1hbp, 5so) left the mound to the rookie Rhiner Cruz, who got out of a complicated situation of runners at the corners with a strikeout against Mineo.

Figueredo entered the field in the top of the seventh inning to replace Casanova (6rl, 2pgl, 8bvc, 2bb, 10so). Morresi welcomed him with a single to right on the first pitch but the young Cuban pitcher reacted well. Robel Garcia hit a pop fly to the shortstop, Leonora a long fly between the outfielders neutralized by a sensational running catch by captain Desimoni, Carrera a dangerous “texas leaguer” caught on the fly by Encarnacion after a run towards the outfielders.
Tomorrow night, “game two” will be played with the challenge between Matteo Bocchi and Gabriele Quattrini.
