What many experts had already feared is now a fact: Rafael Nadal will not play at the US Open, which begins on August 24. The 38-year-old announced this on social media on Wednesday evening. This means that the Spaniard will not take part in the Grand Slam tournament in New York for the fourth time in the last five years. The last time Nadal took part was in 2022, when he lost to Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16.

“I don’t think I would be able to give 100 percent,” said the 22-time major winner in his statement about the cancellation. Nadal also announced that he plans to return to the court at the Laver Cup, which will take place in Berlin from September 20 to 22.
At the Olympic Games in Paris, Nadal competed in the singles and doubles competitions. In the singles, the Spaniard was defeated by the eventual Olympic champion Novak Djokovic in the second round, while in the doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz, the quarterfinals were the end of the road.
