Olympic Medal Count Update: US Leads as EU Outshines Major Competitors at Paris 2024

The United States is, as of Wednesday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m., leading the country rankings for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a total of 88 medals, including 24 gold (8 in swimming, 2 in fencing, 5 in athletics, 3 in artistic gymnastics, one each in rowing, road cycling, golf, surfing, wrestling and shooting), 30 silver medals and 28 bronze. They are followed by China with 61 medals including 23 gold (5 in shooting, 5 in diving, one in BMX, athletics, tennis, weightlifting, two in badminton, artistic gymnastics and swimming and three in table tennis), 17 silver and 13 bronze.

  • Australia comes third with 39 medals, including 17 gold. It is followed by France with 13 gold medals (surfing, canoe-kayak slalom, cycling BMX racing, cycling mountain bike, fencing, two judo, swimming, rugby sevens and triathlon), 16 silver medals and 19 bronze.
  • The United Kingdom is fifth with a total of 47 medals: 12 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze.
  • When aggregating countries by regional organisation, the European Union leads with a total of 186 medals, including 63 gold.
  • It is followed by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (75 medals, including 25 gold), the Union of South American Nations (5 gold medals) and the African Union (3).
  • Thus, by uniting the member states of the European Union under a single banner, it leads the overall ranking with a number of gold medals greater than those obtained by China and the United States.
  • In the Union, the countries with the most gold medals are France (13), Italy and the Netherlands (9), Germany (8), Ireland (4), Romania, Sweden, Hungary (3), Croatia, Spain and Belgium (2).
