Since the 2022 US Open, during which she tested positive in an anti-doping test, Simona Halep has been through an ordeal.
An ordeal that ended a few months ago, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the Romanian’s suspension from 4 years to 9 months, allowing her to return to the circuit whenever she wanted.
But for the former world number one, those long months away from the courts were traumatic in many ways. She was even banned and excluded when she wanted to go to matches, which affected her a lot, as she herself said.
“I wanted to go to Paris Bercy to see Sinner, but I couldn’t. What did I do wrong to not be able to attend a match? It’s too much, in my opinion. I didn’t watch much tennis… Because it was too painful to know that I was banned and that I couldn’t even play or even watch matches in life. I told myself that I wouldn’t watch television. I watched, I think, a maximum of 8, 10 matches in two years »
