• The modern pentathlon competition started already on Thursday with the classification round of fencing, while on Friday the semi-finals were held in the equestrian, fencing bonus round, swimming and laser race competitions.

• Both A and B had 18 athletes competing in the semi-finals, with nine athletes from both semi-finals qualifying for the final. Shvetsov was third in the fencing classification in his semi-final, but became the leader in riding, defending the first place until the last discipline. The laser run is Shvetsov’s weak point, slipping to the fifth position.

• Shvetsov’s performance was evaluated with a total of 1506 points – 240 points in fencing, 300 points in horse riding, 306 points in swimming and 660 points in laser running. If we also compare with the points of the B semi-final, then Švetsov had the eighth best result.

• The athlete’s coach Mihail Yefremenko called Shvetsov’s real goal the top ten, adding that miracles do happen.

• At the Tokyo Olympics, Shvetsov slipped from fifth place to fourteenth in the last discipline. Asked about the Paris semi-final laser race, the athlete was satisfied with running, but shooting was worse this time.

• Tokyo runner-up Ahmed Elgendi of Egypt was the best in Shvetsov’s semi-final, but the Tokyo champion, 2022 and 2023 world champion Joseph Chong of Great Britain, who had only eighth place in the semi-final, and Tokyo bronze medalist Untae Chong of South Korea also qualified for the B semi-final. was the second result.

• Egypt, Italy, Germany, France, Hungary and South Korea will have two participants in the final, Switzerland, Mexico, Latvia, Japan, Poland and Great Britain will have one each. 12 out of 18 finalists represent Europe, three – Asia, two – Africa, one – North America.

• Final at 18.30 will start with riding, at A fencing bonus round is expected at 19.10, swimming at 19.40, but the start of the laser race is scheduled at 20.10. Contrary to what was used in the past, modern pentathlon competitions take much less time.
