Max Verstappen F1: Marko reveals Verstappen exit clause at Red Bull Racing

Helmut Marko has once again made it clear that an early retirement for Max Verstappen in F1 is certainly realistic and should not be seen as a false alarm. In addition, Marko reveals Verstappen’s much-discussed exit clause at Red Bull Racing.

Verstappen has indicated several times in the past that he would certainly not mind retiring from F1 before his contract with Red Bull Racing expires at the end of 2028. The Dutchman does not care much about records, such as the seven championships of Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen will be aiming for his fourth title in a row in 2024, currently 52 points ahead of the only competitor for this season: Lando Norris.

Marko sees a realistic danger of Verstappen’s F1 retirement

In conversation with Sport.de Marko says that he continues to take Verstappen’s early retirement into account. Especially now that Red Bull’s car is struggling and it is also being dealt with more strictly by the FIA. “The danger is there. Verstappen is not the type of person who is looking to equal the records of Schumacher or Hamilton. When Verstappen is in the car, he wants to win. It is just that the conditions have to be right for that.” If he decides he doesn’t like things anymore, you can count on him saying he’s done with it from one day to the next.”

Marko then also reveals that there is indeed an exit clause in Verstappen’s contract. “Most top drivers have exit clauses linked to their performance. Verstappen has something like that too. In this case it just means that if we can’t give him the car that will allow him to be at the front, he will certainly consider whether he remains loyal to the team “He just wants to drive for a team where he has the greatest chance of success.”
