The French Gaël Monfils was clearly beaten in two sets by the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (6-4, 7-5) in the round of 16 of the ATP in Shanghai (China).
Gaël Monfils ultimately was no match for Carlos Alcaraz this Wednesday (6-4, 7-5) in the round of 16 of the ATP in Shanghai (China). Despite great resistance and a few blows for which he has the secret, the 38-year-old Frenchman finally gave in to the Spanish prodigy in 1h27 minutes.
Note that Carlos Alcaraz becomes the first Spaniard to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament since 2017 when his compatriots Nadal and Ramos-Vinolas respectively reached the final (rematched by Federer) and the quarter-finals.
Alcaraz will previously face the American Tommy Paul (13th) or the Czech Tomas Machac (33rd). Like Sinner, the Spaniard was eliminated in the round of 16 last year in Shanghai, and the two rivals therefore have big points to gain in the Chinese megalopolis.
