Malcolm Brogdon’s start as a Wizards player couldn’t have been worse. When training camp has barely begun, the guard has already been injured to the point of having to undergo surgery to repair the ailment suffered during training.
To be exact, and according to the Washington franchise itself, Brogdon has undergone surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. The veteran player suffered such a mishap during training in Montreal, where he was to play a preparation game against the Toronto Raptors.
Regarding the time that he may be out due to this problem, the residents of the capital indicate that it will be later when they will provide a timeline for his recovery. In any case, it is undoubtedly not the best way to approach the upcoming campaign.
The Wizards acquired Brogdon in a trade that sent Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers. Washington also landed the 2024 No. 14 overall pick, Bub Carrington, in that move, as well as a 2029 first-round pick and two future second-round picks.
Although the Wizards are still far from being a competitive team in the League, adding pieces like Brogdon should help them have a more serious tone on the hardwood. Last season, 2023-24, he averaged 15.7 points, 5.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds with the Blazers.
