The organization of the Wimbledon tournament confirms that in the next edition the chair umpires will not exist, since an electronic system will be the responsible for deciding arbitration decisions. The technology called Live Electronic Line Calling, technology already implemented in other ‘Grand Slam’ such as the Australian Open or US Openwill be in charge of making the decisions.

The executive director of the tournament, Sally Bolton, has expressed that the decision to introduce the new operating system in the championships, after reviewing the results of tests carried out This year “it has been taken after a long period of study and consultation.”

“We believe that the technology is robust enough and that the time has come to give this important step in the search for maximum precision in our arbitration. To the players, it will offer the same conditions in which they have played in other events on the circuit,” Bolton defended.

The person in charge thanked the referees for their performance, since “they have played a fundamental role in our arbitration system for many decades.

With the disappearance of the referees from the British tournament, Roland Garros is the only ‘Grand Slam’ that will continue to have referees and without technology.
