Several days have passed and for this Thursday, October 10, the Association of National and International Transporters (Asotrani Perú), under the direction of Walter Carrera, has confirmed a strike in the transport sector. This protest action is added to the demonstrations of other organizations in reaction to the decisions of the Congress of the Republic and to the growing increase in citizen insecurity in the nation.

The initial announcement of the strike was issued by Herman Mendieta, leader of the National and International Transport Association, who maintained that at least 90% of transporters will join the mobilization to demand answers to their claims in the face of the increase in crime at the level. national.

According to what Carrera expressed, several unions will join the strike this Thursday, October 10, including the Student and Youth Command of Lima and Callao, Gamarra merchants, environmental groups and other entities that pursue the same objective: putting an end to the insecurity in the country. In addition, it was confirmed that the strike will be implemented in areas such as Lima, Callao, Junín, Ucayali and others.

However, El Comercio contacted a source from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, who told us the following: “What we know is that the formal unions are not going to stop. Those who are announcing a strike are a sector of the informals,” he said.

What is a state of emergency?

A state of emergency in Peru is a legal measure that allows the government to restrict certain rights and freedoms of citizens to maintain public order and control exceptional situations that threaten the security of the country. This measure can be decreed by the president of the republic through a supreme decree, with the signature of the Council of Ministers.

During a state of emergency, constitutional rights such as:

  • Freedom of transit: Limitations to move freely within the national territory.
  • Inviolability of home: Authorities can enter a home without a court order.
  • Freedom of assembly: Public meetings or demonstrations are prohibited or limited.
  • Personal freedom and security: Arrests can be made without the need for a court order, under certain circumstances.

The state of emergency is declared in crisis situations such as natural disasters, civil unrest, internal conflicts or threats to national security. It has a limited period (generally 60 days), although it can be renewed if circumstances warrant.

The purpose is for the authorities to have greater powers to restore order or address a crisis, but it is also subject to the surveillance of organizations such as Congress and human rights entities.

What is the position of the FPF regarding this event that is taking place in the country?

From La Videna they assure us that the match between Peru vs. Uruguay is not at risk, since it is a private event. In addition, they assure that there will be no complications due to the hour of play and that they will have everything under control so that spectators do not feel disadvantaged.

Finally, as we remember, to get to the National Stadium there are the Metropolitano and the Blue Corridor routes. On the other hand, in the next few hours it will be key both for carrying out the strike and the fate of the 2026 Qualifiers match.
