Cuban toletero José Dariel “Pito” Abreu, the star of a successful Major League Baseball (MLB) career, will join the <a href="http://www.archysport.com/2024/10/jose-abreu-signed-a-contract-in-puerto-rico-for-1-year/" title="Jose Abreu signed a contract in Puerto Rico for 1 year”>San Juan Senators for the upcoming winter baseball season in Puerto Rico.
According to specialized journalist Francis Romero on Facebook, Abreu, 37 years old, has said “yes, I accept” to the Puerto Rican team and will present himself in November, with the aim of preparing for a possible return to the MLB in 2025, after being cut by the Houston Astros.
The veteran player, known for his power and consistency at the plate, will take advantage of the winter league to regain his competitive rhythm after a season marked by injuries and performance issues.
The decision to join the Senators marks an important step in his career as he looks to stay in shape and prove that he can still be a key player in the Majors.
Abreu, a key player in Cuban baseball in the MLB, was named Most Valuable Player of the American League in 2020 and has maintained a successful career with three appearances in the All-Star Game.
His participation in Puerto Rico will attract the attention of fans both on the island and internationally, generating expectations about his future in professional baseball.
That winter campaign will begin in early November, where Abreu will look to make his mark and hopefully pave the way for a successful return to the “Great Carp”.
