Bundesliga soccer team VfB Stuttgart will once again have to be without defender Dan-Axel Zagadou for a long time. As the Swabians announced on Thursday, the 25-year-old central defender underwent surgery on his right knee on Wednesday. “The surgical procedure was successful, but “Daxo” will not be available for several months,” it said on the club’s homepage. Zagadou suffered an injury to his lateral ligament during team training at the end of September after he had just recovered from a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee and had been substituted in three competitive games.
“Daxo was on the way back to its old strength,” said sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth, “which makes this setback all the more bitter for him and of course for us.” Zagadou moved from Borussia Dortmund to VfB in 2022, but has only played 45 times for Stuttgart since then due to numerous injuries. Jeff Chabot, who came from 1. FC Cologne, has established himself as an alternative, and coach Sebastian Hoeneß can now plan with the 7.5 million euro new signing Ameen Al-Dakhil, who is fit to play again after a long injury break.
