Roof of Tampa Bay baseball stadium torn apart by Hurricane Milton

The devastating winds of <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2024/10/live-video-of-hurricane-miltons-arrival-in-florida/" title="Live video of Hurricane Milton's arrival in Florida“>Hurricane Milton, which made landfall on the coast of Florida on Wednesday evening, tore the roof of the stadium of the professional baseball team the Tampa Bay Rays, as shown in images obtained by AFP.

In a video filmed by a resident of Saint Petersburg, a city on Tampa Bay where <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/mlb-rays-shared-custody-plan-dropped/" title="MLB: Rays shared custody plan dropped”>Tropicana Field is located, the white plastic structure that covers the stadium is found torn to shreds by the storm.

The metal structure of the dome resisted Milton.

Drone footage filmed above the stadium after the hurricane showed pieces of the roof littering the field below. Other pieces remain attached to the metal beams, and float in the wind.

Created in 1998, the Tampa Bay Rays are one of the most recent franchises in Major League Baseball (MLB), the North American professional championship.

With a record of 80 wins for 82 losses during their 2024 season, the Rays failed to qualify for the playoffs, which have just started.

Their next game at Tropicana Field will therefore not take place for several months.

Hurricane Milton made landfall on the west coast of Florida on Wednesday evening, with winds reaching 165 km/h, according to the US Hurricane Center (NHC).

More than 3.3 million homes are still without power Thursday morning, according to the specialized site poweroutage.us.
