A recent survey showed that “engineers, programmers” and “game producers” were among the top 10 careers desired by boys in primary and junior high schools. Among the careers that junior high school girls aspire to, “engineers, programmers” and “web designers” also rank in the top 10. For the generation of digital natives, relying on digital technology to make a living has become a realistic choice.
Adecco, a human resources service company, conducted a survey among 1,800 elementary and junior high school students across Japan (100 males and 100 males in each grade) and asked them about the careers they want to pursue in the future.
“Pastry chef” ranks at the top of the list of careers desired by elementary school girls with an overwhelmingly high support rate of 20.2%, and also accounts for 8.0% of junior high school girls, showing its high popularity.
On the other hand, for the first time since the survey began in 2014, “engineers and programmers” top the list of careers that junior high school boys aspire to. Judging from the overall situation of boys in primary school and junior high school, “engineers and programmers” are second only to “football players”, ranking second on the list of desired occupations.
Primary school students’ support for “company employees” and “civil servants” is relatively average, but they rank second and third among junior high school boys and fifth and seventh among junior high school girls. It seems that with grade As the level increases, children’s mentality will become realistic and they will become more and more inclined to choose stability.
