The stadium was actually intended to serve as accommodation for first responders. But according to the Florida National Guard, the guardsmen who were housed at Tropicana Field were moved to the city of Ocala as a precaution before the hurricane made landfall.
“A mixture of thunder and screeching”
A spokesman for the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team told ABC News: “No first responders were placed at Tropicana Field, and the personnel who were there are safe and being cared for.”
