The German badminton elite meets again in Mellensee – Badminton Association Berlin-Brandenburg

Press release from the organizer

From November 15th to 17th, 2024 there will once again be top-class badminton sport in the multi-purpose hall in Mellensee and this year there will even be a Mellensee resident at the center of the action. Around 200 participants are expected from all over Germany and, with free entry, there will hopefully be plenty of spectators attending the second most important national badminton event. This year the community of Am Mellensee will be particularly presented by the national referee Martin Reinke. Reinke lives in Mellensee and is also regularly at the SV Klausdorf badminton department training session in the multi-purpose hall on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. At the beginning of October, Reinke was still in action in the 1st Badminton Bundesliga in Neumünster and in this year’s German rankings, the 36-year-old is acting as an examiner for the German Badminton Association, as eight national referees have to undergo proof of performance. The winners will be determined over the three days in the disciplines of men’s, women’s singles, men’s, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The event begins on Friday (November 15th) at 5:30 p.m. with the mixed doubles games. The men’s singles start on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by the women’s singles and in the afternoon around 3:00 p.m. the women’s and men’s doubles begin. In the double disciplines, the rallies are usually particularly spectacular and a visit is definitely worth it. The president of SV Klausdorf Babett Colberg is really looking forward to the special atmosphere that is created in the hall by the specially laid playing field mats from VICTOR. At ball flight speeds of around 400 km/h, around 1000 natural shuttlecocks are probably used. Sunday is available for all semi-finals and finals from 9 a.m. and with free entry again, hopefully many spectators will show up.

This year too, the state of Brandenburg is supporting the event and the municipality of Am Mellensee is providing the sports hall. The badminton department of SV Klausdorf is at the start with around 12 volunteers and the co-host BC Matchpoint Berlin guarantees the sporting process of the German rankings. President Christian Holzmacher trusts in the cooperation that has already been established and is sure that everything will come together again this year.

A cafeteria during the event will once again provide for physical well-being this year. Many good reasons to visit the multi-purpose hall.
