THE GAME
The Seahawks started the game with possession and made great progress, but quarterback Geno Smith felt the defensive pressure in the red zone and threw an interception, made by rookie safety Malik Mustapha.
The 49ers, in turn, explored the ground game with running back Jordan Mason, spent seven and a half minutes on the clock, but had to settle for just a field goal, converted by kicker Matthew Wright. After the initial campaigns, the defenses managed to stop on each team’s next possession and thus the first quarter ended 3-0 for the visitors.
The start of the second quarter was explosive for the San Francisco team, which put together an excellent play, with QB Brock Purdy passing to wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who ran 76 yards for the first touchdown of the game.
On the very next kickoff, returner Laviska Shenault, from Seattle, ended up suffering a fumble, forced by cornerback Darrell Luter and recovered linebacker Tatum Bethune. The opportunity, however, only yielded another FG from Wright, who made another shot a few minutes later in the period.
Within two minutes, the Seahawks managed to put together a good drive, but had to settle for a field goal, converted by K Jason Myers. The first half ended 16 to 3 for San Francisco.
The start of the second started excitingly. The 49ers started with the ball, had a solid drive and finished with a pass from Purdy to tight end George Kittle. The Seahawks fought back almost immediately, with Shenault scoring a 97-yard TD return.
After a punt from the visitors, the Seattle franchise managed to mount a campaign that, in fact, resulted in a TD. After 12 plays and five minutes spent, RB Kenneth Walker entered the end zone and reduced the deficit. The last quarter started with the score 23 to 17 for San Francisco.
On one of the drives to take the lead, the Seahawks ended up suffering another turnover with Smith throwing another interception, this time made by cornerback Renardo Green. The opportunity yielded points, with Purdy throwing for Kittle to score his second touchdown of the game. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful.
With just over six minutes left on the clock, the Seattle team tried to start the comeback and managed to score a TD from Smith to WR Tyler Lockett.
Within the final two minutes, the 49ers weren’t content to just run out the clock and scored another TD with a run by fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Earlier, RB Isaac Guerendo had a huge 76-yard gain.
With the game defined, the Seahawks tried to score points, but were unsuccessful. The game ended with a 36-24 victory for the 49ers.
