Diogo Ribeiro Accuses Luís Montenegro of Inconsistency: A Deep Dive into Political Discourse

Portuguese swimmer Diogo Ribeiro took to his social networks this Thursday to leave harsh criticism of the announced 16% reduction in the value of expenditure for the sports sector in the State Budget for 2025. The amount will be 42, 5 million euros, 7.8 million less compared to 2024.

“The Government is committed to reinforcing investment in sport in Portugal, given the international sporting context, bringing it closer to the European Union average, at a crucial moment, when a new Olympic and Paralympic cycle begins, affirming the commitment to excellence and sports development”, reads the document that was delivered this Thursday by the Government to the Assembly of the Republic.

“Inconsistency. More of the same”, wrote the two-time Portuguese world champion, through stories on the social network Instagram.

This decision contradicts recent statements by Luís Montenegro, Portuguese Prime Minister, who said he intended to “grow above 20%” the value allocated to program contracts for the Los Angeles’2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
