Wout van Aert is still in full recovery after his heavy crash in the Vuelta. However, things are going in the right direction, although the Kempen native still managed to shock his followers somewhat.

Big scars
After all, Van Aert came up with a small video showing that he can already straighten his knee. However, it is noticeable that his knee is already very badly damaged.
In any case, these are traces of his crash from the Vuelta, but there were probably traces of wild flesh – scars – that were visible before.
Clean up the knee
In an interview just before the summer, Van Aert already stated that he wants to have his knees ‘cleaned’ again. “Like almost every driver, my knees do not look good due to the wild flesh of several crashes. In terms of vanity, I am more concerned with my knees, I am considering having that wild flesh removed or at least cleaned up after my career.”
His eldest son Georges also notices the many scars. “He asks a lot more questions about those red spots of wild flesh on my knees. Then he points and says, ‘Daddy is in pain.’ I then have to reassure him that it no longer hurts, but is a scar.”
Recovery is going well
However, as mentioned, Van Aert’s recovery seems to be going well. A few weeks ago we saw him on crutches at a press conference, but since then he has been back on his bike. Last Monday he went out with Jan Bakelants, on Wednesday there was another trip in his own region. “Stunning,” Van Aert writes on Strava.
