There was great concern when we met the former president of the Archer Club Marmandais who was looking for a replacement to take over. Three months later, as the sports season begins in September 2024, the Marmande archery club has regained serenity with a new management team and a whole young president at his head. Compared to last year, even more of them volunteered to keep the club’s activities going.
Théo Gleyroux, president at 19
In this new management team, we find old but also newand young people, starting with the president, Théo Gleyroux. At only 19 years old, this child of the ACM decided to get involved in helping the club: “I thought a lot about it and I offered myself,” explains the man who has been with the association since he was 8 years old.
Enough to generate a new momentum within the association which now has a more robust management team compared to last year with more than 15 members, half of whom have already planned to take federal management training.
The course remains the same, namely develop the practice especially among young people. “The objective is to get back on a good foundation to continue to move the club forward. » defines the young president. “It’s not necessarily a sport that you think of immediately, but by trying you can quickly become addicted to it ».
And the club has no shortage of ideas: “We do a lot of activities throughout the year. We also think about develop outdoor role play which are very popular,” says Patrick Peyre, who is part of the management team.
Archery: a fun sport that pleases
While France distinguished itself at the last Olympic Games by winning a silver medal and a bronze medal in archery, the Archer Club Marmandais has already regained its number of licensees with more than fifty registrations already recorded. If the Olympic Games effect is not proven, the only thing left is that archery pleases, especially to the youngest. “The difficulty we have is keeping them when they start their higher education,” analyzes Patrick Peyre.
Still, the sessions on Wednesday, for children under 12, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. are full. “From the first week, we received more than 25 new future archers who were able to benefit from the sessions offered by the club ».
These free sessions are aimed at toddlers as well as young people aged 12 to 20 (Mondays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.) as well as adult beginners ( training on Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.). The Archer Club Marmandais is one of two clubs in the department to have a shooting room dedicated to practicelocated at 104 avenue du Commandant Christian Baylac in Marmande.
The association’s next big event is the traditional nature competition organized in the Montpouillan forest in December.
