Football: Thomas Tuchel is apparently negotiating a position as England national coach

According to information from WELT TV, the former coach of FC Bayern, Thomas Tuchel, is apparently in advanced negotiations with the English Football Association FA for the position of national coach. Accordingly, “an agreement could be reached quickly” between the association and the 51-year-old.

After the separation from Gareth Southgate, who had managed the “Three Lions” for eight years, the team is currently being coached on an interim basis by Lee Carsley, who, however, surprisingly lost 2-1 to Greece in the Nations League with England on Thursday.

Should Tuchel take over the national coaching job, he would be only the third foreigner to be entrusted with this task. The Swede Sven-Göran Eriksson (2000 to 2006) and the Italian Fabio Capello (2008 to 2012) had previously trained the Three Lions. The English national team has been waiting for great success since their victory at the 1966 World Cup. The English recently lost the European Championship final twice in a row.

Tuchel also asked at Manchester United

Tuchel has been without a job since leaving Munich in the summer. The coach continues to enjoy a good reputation in England, especially thanks to the Champions League triumph with Chelsea FC in 2021. There are currently reports about a possible commitment to Manchester United, where coach Erik ten Hag and his team are currently only in 14th place in the Premier League.

But even after a crisis meeting lasting several hours at the beginning of the week, ten Hag is still in office; according to English media reports, the Dutchman is allowed to continue for the time being. “We are all on board together, on the same page. We know what we are working towards,” said ten Hag recently. He did not receive any signals that the club management was no longer convinced of him. The English record champions are said to still be interested in Tuchel.
