The Formula 1 season will resume next weekend in Austin with the United States Grand Prix. It will also be an important weekend for Red Bull Racing, because the Austrian team will arrive in the United States with an update package. Horner previously tempered expectations of that new package, because earlier this season it became apparent that the updates were not always successful. This was mainly due to the correlation problems at Red Bull Racing. This means that what can be extracted from the wind tunnel data cannot be translated one-to-one to what happens on the track.

Pushed the boundaries of the regulations and lost correlation
With the final phase of the season ahead and Max Verstappen having a 52-point lead over title candidate Lando Norris, it is time for Red Bull to improve the RB20. Horner is therefore convinced that the Austrian team is slowly but surely climbing out of the valley. To this end, it has now tackled the correlation problems, Horner says: “Our tools were not accurate and as we increasingly pushed the limits of these regulations aerodynamically, we lost the correlation.”

Clarity about the cause of problems
The stagnation in the development of the RB20 was briefly attributed to Red Bull Racing’s outdated wind tunnel. However, Verstappen stated that the wind tunnel has always delivered in the past, despite its lifespan. In Monza, Red Bull Racing, in its own words, found the key to the turnaround, it was also the race in which the team broke the lower limit. “When all the downforce went off the car in Monza, it really became clear where the problems came from,” said Horner, who hopes for a quick turnaround.
