An easy opposition on paper, but which ultimately proved more complicated than expected for the Elephants. While Nicolas Pépé opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, the Ivorians almost doubled the lead, but Franck Kessié missed his penalty in the 37th minute. A failure which left the door open for their opponents who equalized thanks to Alhassan Koroma just before the break. The former AC Milan and FC Barcelona midfielder made amends after returning from the locker room by putting Ivory Coast back in front in the 51st minute and having his revenge from the penalty spot at the end of the match (3-1, 76th). At the end of the match, Oumar Diakité also went there with his transformed banderilla (87th). The score no longer changed and Emerse Faé’s men confirmed their third success in as many matches in this group G.
